Holiday Plans and Training Absences- Inform KFMA
Updated: 1 day ago
Hello

Hello KFMA Students and Parents,
Holiday plans are part of family life, especially around school breaks, public holidays, summer trips, and visits to relatives. Training should fit around real life, but missed classes are much easier to manage when KFMA and Master Mark know ahead of time.
If a student will miss classes because of a planned holiday, please let Master Mark know in advance by email - info.koreanfreestylema@gmail.com . Include the date the student will be away and the date they expect to return. This helps with class planning, attendance records, grading preparation, subscription training fees and general organisation.
Unexpected absences from training do not lead to fee reductions. Fees remain the same even if a student misses classes without notice, or if plans change at short notice.
Please tell KFMA and Master Mark about holiday plans before you go
Advance notice matters because students training and progress is planned around regular attendance. Each class builds on skills taught in earlier sessions. When Master Mark knows a student will be away, he can keep track of what they may miss and help them return to training with less confusion.
This is especially useful when students are preparing for:
Gradings
Competitions
Pattern work
Sparring development
Fitness goals
New techniques introduced over several weeks
A planned holiday is not a problem. The issue is when an absence is unexpected and no one has passed on the information. That can lead to confusion about whether a student is ill, taking a break, no longer attending, or simply away with family.
For parents, it also means there is a written record of the dates. For students, it encourages responsibility and respect for the training group. For Master Mark, it helps him plan classes with a realistic idea of who will be present.
The preferred approach is simple:
Send an email to info.koreanfreestylema@gmail.com before the student goes away.
Include the holiday dates.
Include the expected return date.
Send an update if the return date changes.
That small step keeps everyone informed.
Email is the clearest way to share return dates
Please communicate planned holiday absences and return dates by email (info.koreanfreestylema@gmail.com) wherever possible. A conversation before or after class can be useful, but it is easy for details to be forgotten during a busy session. Email gives KFMA and Master Mark a clear written record to refer back to.
When sending the email, keep it short and clear. There is no need for a long explanation. The most helpful message includes the student’s name, the dates they will miss training, and the date they expect to return.

What to include in your holiday absence email
A clear email does not need to be formal. It only needs the right information.
Please include:
Student name
This is especially important if the parent’s surname or email address is different from the student’s name.
First date missed
State the first class or first training date the student will miss.
Expected return date
This is the key detail. It helps Master Mark know when to expect the student back in class.
Any grading or event concerns
If the student is due to grade, attend a seminar, or take part in an event, mention this in the email.
A follow-up if plans change
If travel plans change or the student needs extra time away, send another email with the revised return date.
Students who are old enough to manage their own training communication are welcome to send the email themselves. Parents can also send it on their behalf. The main point is that the information reaches Master Mark clearly and early.
If the student speaks to Master Mark in person, it is still best to send a brief email afterwards. This protects everyone from mixed messages and forgotten dates.
Training fees cover a student's place in class and the ongoing operation of the school, so fees are not reduced for unexpected absences. This applies when classes are missed without notice or during short periods away. The policy ensures fairness for all students, as hall hire, planning, equipment, insurance, and instructor costs continue regardless of attendance. Advance notice of holidays is appreciated for planning purposes but does not automatically alter fees. For longer-term circumstances affecting attendance, families are encouraged to discuss arrangements with Master Mark as early as possible.
Open communication helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures absences are managed smoothly.
It allows Master Mark to plan, confirms that messages have been received, and helps students return to training with confidence. If there are concerns about missed lessons, upcoming gradings, or changes to travel plans, families are encouraged to contact KFMA or Master Mark as soon as possible. Students can also take responsibility by checking what they missed when they return. When absences have been communicated appropriately, there is no need for students to feel embarrassed about returning to class.
Returning to training after a holiday
Coming back after a break can feel awkward, especially for younger students or those preparing for a grading. A student may worry that everyone else has moved ahead. In most cases, the return is simple if the absence was planned and communicated.
The first class back should focus on getting back into routine. Students should bring the correct uniform, handbook, water, and a positive attitude. If they practised while away, they can mention that. If they did not, they can still return ready to learn.
A few useful habits help:
Arrive on time, or slightly early if possible.
Listen carefully during warm-ups and instruction.
Ask for clarification if a technique feels unfamiliar.
Avoid comparing progress with other students.
Keep training consistently after returning.
Parents can help by checking the return date before the holiday ends. If the student returns tired from travel, plan ahead so they are ready for class. This may mean preparing their uniform the day before or making sure they know which class they are attending.
KFMA and Master Mark can support students more easily when he knows when they are coming back. That is why the return date matters so much.
As always Master Mark and Brooke are available to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to reach out.
